I’m interested in getting a ps3 for it’s games and blu ray player. I just bought a new samsung 50inch plasma that I think would look really nice with a hi def movie player like that one. Thanks for the help!

PS3 is at least as good as any player made. The Samsung 3600 (and some say the new Oppo) are on par with it, but they cost no less than the PS3.
The Drake’s Fortune bundle160GB PS3 is going for $400 on Dell.com:
If you want to play games AND have a Blu-ray player the PS3 is a good choice. BUT, other than fast loading due to its cell processor design, it’s a pretty middle of the road Blu-ray player. It’s also an energy hog (See Link 1. A typical BD player uses about 30 watts … the PS3? … about 4-5X that!). More important to most, from a video processing perspective it’s not as good as any of the players in it’s price range …. and not a patch on the Oppo player just being introduced (See Link 2).
But SA players that beat it cost just as much (or more) and don’t play games.
You choose.
For the most part, yes.
Happy viewing!
The UK retailer John Lewis has the PS3 as it’s first item in the Blu Ray player category, and that’s an endorsement as they only sell quality gear. If you also happen to want it for gaming all the better.
