What is the difference between blu-ray disc support and a blu-ray player?

I’m looking at Sony computers online, and a lot of the laptops say that they have blu-ray disc support, rather than just saying they have a blu-ray player. What does this mean?

TV guy

It means, it is up to you to decide whether you want a BD drive or not. If you just get a DVD drive, it will be cheaper.

(Not everyone cares to watch BD movies on a computer)
